Finger Waves

Prom hairstyles for short hair should have some oomph – something special that sets the look apart from your everyday hairstyle!

Vintage hairstyles are a fabulous place to take inspiration for long or short prom hair. Check out how to make finger waves that transform hair into a glamorous retro prom look!

Finger waves are much easier to style than they look – especially with short hair. Start with freshly washed hair and towel dry it until it’s damp. Next rub a setting cream or styling gel through hair – enough to thoroughly coat locks without becoming sticky or greasy.

The final step is to form the waves. There are plenty of Youtube videos out there will show you how or you can just go for it. Take a comb and starting from the part, push and pull hair into cascading waves along the forehead.

With longer hair, you can play with deeper finger waves or just have a gentle wave along the forehead and down one side, as shown above. This tiny detail adds sophistication and vintage charm to short hair.

Gently clip the indent of the curve with alligator clips until hair sets. Then take out the clips and you’re ready to dance the night away!
